Where to stay on Anna Maria Island
Start with the outing you expect to make most often. If it is a morning on the beach, check the walk to the sand. If you want to head out for dinner without driving, compare the rental’s address with the restaurants on your shortlist. The city name gives you a starting point; the exact location determines how your days work.
From north to south: Anna Maria, Holmes Beach, then Bradenton Beach. These are the island’s three communities. Bradenton Beach is on the island; it is different from the mainland city of Bradenton.
| Area | Places to plan around | Check before choosing a home |
|---|---|---|
| Anna Maria | Pine Avenue and the north end of the island | The route to your preferred beach entrance and whether the home faces the Gulf, bay or a canal |
| Holmes Beach | Manatee Public Beach and the central part of the island | Distance to the beach facilities and the dining or shopping stops you will use |
| Bradenton Beach | Bridge Street, Cortez Beach and Coquina Beach | The walk to dinner, road crossings and how you will reach the beach you prefer |
Anna Maria: plan around the north end
Consider Anna Maria if Pine Avenue is part of the trip you have in mind. Use our Anna Maria dining guide and shopping guide to choose a few stops, then compare their locations with the homes you like.
Look carefully at which side of the island the property is on. A water view does not tell you whether there is a sandy beach outside, and a canalfront home can offer a very different setting from a Gulf-facing rental. Ask for the public beach entrance you would use and trace the route from the house.
Holmes Beach: a central base
Holmes Beach is worth comparing if you want to explore both ends of the island. Manatee Public Beach, at State Road 64 and Gulf Drive, has county-listed facilities including restrooms, showers, food concessions and a trolley stop. Those facilities may be useful when choosing where to spend a beach day; they are not amenities included with every nearby rental.
Check the address against your plans rather than assuming every Holmes Beach home is close to that beach entrance. Browse Holmes Beach restaurants and note which meals you could reach on foot, by trolley or by car.
Planning a special dinner? Our Anna Maria Island fine-dining guide compares several island restaurants and clearly identifies Shore Longboat Key as an off-island option.
Bradenton Beach: Bridge Street and southern beaches
Bridge Street is the center of Bradenton Beach’s Historic Old Town District, with shops, restaurants and bars. If dinner out is a priority, compare the walking route from each rental, including crossings, with the places in our Bradenton Beach dining guide.
Cortez and Coquina beaches are also in this part of the island. The county lists restrooms, showers, picnic areas and a trolley stop at Coquina Beach. A home near Bridge Street and one farther along Gulf Drive will give you different daily journeys, even though both have a Bradenton Beach address.
